$100.00____ Yankee Doodle Macaroni: Boil approx.15 minutes: 2-1/2 cups macaroni, 4 cups of milk and a pinch of salt until milk is absorbed. Add 3 Tbsp butter, 1 cup grated parmesan cheese, ground pepper and a pinch nutmeg. Stir until butter and cheese melt, pour into buttered baking dish. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Bake at 350 F for about 20 minutes.

$250.00___ Martha Washington’s Lemonade: Juice and zest 6 large lemons.  Boil the zest with 2 cups of water.  Let cool to room temperature.  Stir in lemon juice and 1 - 2 cups sugar until the sugar dissolves. Strain to remove zest.  Add 2-1/2 cups (or more, to taste) of water.  Chill for at least 1 hour.  Serve over ice; garnish with lemon slices.  (Created by culinary historian Nancy Carter Crump for the book Dining with the Washingtons.)

$500.00____ Mulled wineSimmer 1 cinnamon stick, 1 piece of fresh ginger, 10 cloves and 5 cardamom pods (peeled/crushed) in 1 cup water for ½ hour.  Strain out the spices, add 1 bottle red wine, 1/3 cup cognac & 1/3 cup sugar.  Add raisons for flavor.

$750.00____ Johnnycake:  Mix together 1 cup corn meal, 1 tsp. sugar, and ½ tsp. salt. Slowly add 1-1/4 cup boiling water.  (Do not over-mix.) Place one large spoonful of batter on a greased hot griddle.  When edges are brown, wait about 30 seconds then flip over with a spatula. Press down to flatten the center, cook the second side.  Serve warm with butter.

$1000.00____Cyder: “Take your Apples... and grind them in a Cyder-mill... Take your Pulp and put it into the Press, and squeeze out the Juice... Put it into a Hogshead [110 gallons] ... $2500.00____ Hot Buttered Rum:  Whisk together into a smooth paste:  4 Tbsp butter, ¾ cup brown sugar, 1 Tbsp molasses,1 tsp each:  cinnamon,  ginger and  vanilla, ½ tsp salt, ¼ tsp each:  allspice and ground cloves.  Boil 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 cup water; add 10 oz rum and warm over low heat. Whisk in the spiced butter and ladle into mugs.  Top liberally with whipped cream.

$5000.00____ Dill pickles:  Heat 2 cups distilled vinegar, 4 cups water, ¼ cup salt, 4 tsp caraway seeds and 4 tsp sugar until sugar dissolves. Cool and pour into container holding 4 lbs sliced (spears or chips) cucumbers and 20 dill sprigs.  Chill for 24 - 48 hours.
